The Basra Project, which collects donations
of used prosthetic limbs for reconditioning
and use by Iraqis injured in the war, is making
good progress! More than 50,000 Iraqis have
been injured by land mines and in other ways
in the war and desperately need lower extremity
limbs to resume any semblance of normal
lives. Donations of used prosthetic limbs are
coming in almost daily.
Our Club is funding the costs of an intern
at The College of St. Scholastica to solicit
donations of limbs, collect them and send
them to a central collection point in the
Washington, DC area where they are sent to
a clinic in Basra, Iraq for reconditioning and
fitting for patients. Club 25 is one of more
than a dozen Rotary Clubs in the US participating
actively in the project. Club members
have helped so far by arranging donations of
limbs and by publicizing the project through
local media and other contacts.
You can help by passing information on
the Basra Project on to potential donors
and/or medical professionals whose patients
may wear prosthetic limbs that they have
outgrown or upgraded. Donors and medical
professionals can contact Ashley Borgstrom
at basraproject@gmail.com or by
calling (218) 625-4932. You can also
