What is the Rotary Foundation?
by Earl Rogers
Arch
Klumph, sixth president of Rotary International, who convinced a Rotary
convention of the need for an endowment for "doing good in the world"
in charitable, educational, or other avenues of service, began the Rotary
Foundation in 1917.
Since that humble start, our Foundation, which represents the majority of our
international activities in the Rotary world of clubs, has grown from a sum of
$26, the first contribution, to over $95.4 million dollars in income during
2001-2002. The amounts spent to provide humanitarian relief have grown annually to
over $110 million dollars. A large part of this, approximately 30 million
dollars, is for the elimination of polio.
Our District 5580 this year has a goal of $100 per member to continue to
provide the wonderful efforts the Foundation undertakes to bring health,
education and wellness to the developing world.
Will you join the members of our club who will contribute this amount, or
more, every year?
