Past President Bill Gravelle shared that one of the Junior Rotarians he was honored to share a table with just happened to be the daughter of one of his former co-workers at Eikill and Schilling. Many scientific studies have been done that show how strength training can help mitigate negative, age-related health outcomes. Discover Strength offers a fitness model based on science and is designed to bring muscle groups to momentary failure to produce optimal results. The program is designed to help those over 50 combat age-related health issues by offering a convenient and effective strength training routine built specifically for each individual participant regardless of age and past or current physical activity levels. The program can be delivered in person or virtually.
The Discover Strength approach has been shown to positively impact health issues such as osteoporosis by building bone density, sarcopenia by building muscle tissue, hypertension by reducing blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes by increasing insulin sensitivity, physical function and balance by strengthening fast-twitch muscle fibers. Initial research is also showing that strength training can be effective in retaining three types of memory including working, immediate, and short-term memory.
