Highlights from Last Week’s Meeting
By Al Makynen
A lively crowd gathered at the newly remodeled Garden (Formerly Grandma’s Sports Garden) to honor the work of three Presidents: Michelle Buria (2019-20), Dean Casperson (2020-21) and Chana Stocke (2021-22). The COVID-19 pandemic affected each of their years. However, with their leadership, the Club was nimble and adopted new technologies to continue gathering and serving the community. Each of the Past Presidents was given a boutonniere to mark their service. And an old tradition of a procession of Past President was resurrected. Then quickly on to the honored guests.
Club #25 Past Presidents, President, Assistant District Governors and Past Assistant Governors
Past President Michelle Buria was introduced by the famous Rotary Yellow Duck (Jon Ohman)

Past President Dean Casperson was introduced by a very proud spouse and fellow member Patra Sevastiades.

Soon to be “Past President”, President Chana Stocke was introduced by President Elect Barb Perrella.

Each of the past presidents had brief remarks about their particular year. The highlight of the evening was a video remembrance for each of the years created by Jerry Thoreson. The selection of photos to highlight the years was only the beginning. The music selections told the real stories! “Disco Duck” for Past President Michelle Buria. “Staying Alive” for Past President Dean Casperson. “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” for President Chana Stocke.
A Standing Ovation from fellow Rotarians!
President Chana Stocke had the last words of reflection and encouragement. She reminded us of an old disparaging moniker attributed to Rotary Club #25: “A club of old men and their fathers.” Rather than being offended, members should embrace this as part of our history and celebrate our long (more than a century) of community service.
