Lake Superior Railroad Museum Tour and Lunch

Our club meeting last fall at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum was so much fun that we're going back!  Arrive around 11:45 for a self-guided tour of the museum and a buffet lunch.  Executive Director Ken Buehler will regale us with stories about the museum and the rolling stock.  We'll then have an opportunity to tour a train car not normally open to the public.

Parking is available behind the Depot off 4th avenue.  We need a head count so please be sure to sign up.

Collaborative Caretaking of Spaces and Neighbors
Collaborative Caretaking of Spaces and Neighbors

The City of Duluth received one of eight Love Your Block grants from the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation to support collaboration and caretaking in neighborhoods. This includes repairing structures, nurturing relationships, addressing solid waste, and centering resident voices to identify solutions for blighted spaces. In 2022, the Love Your Block team collaborated with residents on thirteen projects across Central Hillside and Lincoln Park. Heading into 2023, there are opportunities to further the impact and investment in our community. Join us to explore causes, symptoms, and impacts of blight – along with opportunities to improve our community block by block.

Regional Welcoming Community Programming in Northeast Minnesota
Regional Welcoming Community Programming in Northeast Minnesota

In early 2020, Northspan undertook considerable groundwork to determine the feasibility of welcoming community work. It conducted a survey of potential partners to determine interest and buy-in to the concept, conducted research on the potential benefits and pitfalls of such work, and worked with other regions in Minnesota. These background investigations revealed both a strong desire to address these topics and a clear empirical case that a more welcoming community is a source of growth for regional populations and economies. This presentation will inform you of the Welcoming Community activities now in action in northeast Minnesota.
